The British Academy of Arts and Design (BAAD) successfully organized an academic visit to IDEA Nepal for Diploma in Interior Design students for the program “Orientation, Interior Interaction & Excellence Award 2025.”

The visit provided students with valuable exposure to the professional framework of interior design practice, industry ethics, and the role of IDEA Nepal in promoting excellence within the interior design community. Through orientation and interactive sessions, students gained insights into career pathways, professional standards, and the importance of continuous learning.

The Excellence Award 2025 segment served as a source of inspiration, encouraging students to pursue creativity, professionalism, and design excellence in their academic and professional journey. The competition provided a valuable platform for students to showcase their design skills, creativity, and professional understanding, while encouraging innovation, critical thinking, and excellence in interior design. Such initiatives motivate students to strive for higher standards and prepare them for real-world professional challenges.

In interior design, pattern and texture play a vital role in shaping the visual language and tactile experience of a space.

Pattern refers to the repetition of visual motifs — such as geometric shapes, organic lines, or decorative elements — which help establish rhythm, movement, and visual hierarchy in design.

Texture describes the surface quality of materials, whether smooth, rough, soft, or coarse. Texture affects how we perceive light, depth, and comfort in a space.

In today’s notes, we explored:

• How patterns influence visual interest and spatial identity

• The relationship between texture and material expression

The British Academy of Arts and Design (BAAD) was honoured to welcome IDEA Nepal for a meaningful and insightful visit. The interaction reflected mutual appreciation and a shared commitment to nurturing excellence in interior design education in Nepal.

The objective of this visit was to provide students with practical exposure to building materials, products, and real-world industry practices, which forms an essential part of their academic and professional learning.

The site visit to Bira Furniture at Patan Industrial Estate, Lalitpur provided Diploma in Interior Design students with valuable exposure to real-world furniture manufacturing, materials, and production processes. This experience helped students connect classroom learning with industry practice.

Key opportunities and benefits for students included:

• Understanding furniture production techniques and material quality

• Observing craftsmanship, finishes, and structural detailing

• Gaining insight into industry standards and workflows

• Enhancing practical knowledge through real-site interaction

The session on 3D Views focused on building a strong foundation in design visualization and technical understanding. Students were introduced to the purpose and application of 3D representations in Interior Design.
